NYCFC Transfer Watch: Lampard looks to extend Man City stay? More

Frank Lampard may be the best Major League Soccer player never to actually perform in a single league match, and his recent success with Manchester City could keep that strange narrative alive a bit longer.

When asked if he would extend his stay in England after his impressive Manchester City start, the former Chelsea star told reporters, “The temptation is to not get ahead of myself in my career. I am here until January 1, basically, so I will focus on that and see what happens then … There has been a lot said about when the season starts, but the only thing that can decide my future is how well I am playing. They will be kicking me out in January if I don’t play very well!

“I am just looking game to game and trying to play as well as I can.”

Having scored four goals in five matches across all competitions, the future New York City FC player is quickly becoming a vital cog in the City machine as they look to defend their Premiership title.  That, of course, puts him in a rather uncomfortable situation.  Lampard is set to leave City for NYCFC by January 1st ahead of the team’s preseason camp in the third week of the month.  That could see him miss vital training time with his new teammates, much as David Villa has done ahead of his time with Melbourne Victory.

For his part, NYCFC boss Jason Kreis shot down rumors of an extended stay.  However, Lampard’s continued success is vital to mother-club City’s season, and could force the new MLS ownership group into a tough position come January.

  • Josh Saunders nearly picked up a shutout this weekend, but Ryan Richter had other ideas.  A 90th minute goal from the Ottawa Fury changed the narrative as a 1-0 San Antonio Scorpions victory morphed into a 1-1 draw.  San Antonio is still in a commanding lead, second overall for the NASL postseason.
  • The Carolina Railhawks are holding on to their final postseason spot after falling to fellow playoff contender Fort Lauderdale Strikers in a 1-0 loss. Kwame Watson-Siriboe played 90 minutes.
  • Andrew Jacobson played 90 minutes and picked up a yellow in a 1-1 draw against former Red Bull winger Dane Richards’ Bodo/Glimt.
  • Jeb Brovsky remains out at Strømsgodset.
  • David Villa is set to debut for Melbourne City this week.

Sister Club, Sister Club, Sister Club > This is so funny. Keep thinking your a club & you will be big. As long as MLS is run the way it is & Man City is the priority, things will never change.

  • LOL

Good thing there’s nasl where players get traded for hotel rooms

      Your a moron.

The most ridiculous part of this situation is that both Manchester City and NYCFC are perceived to be owned by the same group, therefore there wouldn’t be any “squabble”, right? The ownership group of both teams has the final say as they are both assets of one umbrella company.

However, the reality is, it’s not NYCFC (the individual asset) that would want Lampard back – it’s really MLS (which owns the brands and player contracts of all its teams, including NYCFC) that want him back and will be using the NYCFC facade to demand Lampard to play by January. It’s all a farce.

Dave Martinez, call for the truth. It’s not NYCFC vs Manchester City for Lampard, lol, because they are “one company”. It’s MLS vs Manchester City for Lampard.

    MLS Problems 101.

The whole thing is pretty pathetic. Then you have idiots that post about players being traded for hotel rooms for the 100th time because they have nothing else to add.

      • MLS Problems 101

NYCFC will end up going the way of Chivas, nobody cares about it, league pushing it like it’s all NYC to their casual fans, who will lose interest after a few games in. MLS doesn’t get it by now they never will.

  • MLS Problems 101

MLS does things half ass all the time, just look at the crest re-brand it looks like they forgot to finish it. No SSS for NYCFC is another half ass attempt. Pissing on Red Bull when they invested heavily. League just doesn’t know how to treat soccer & when they fall into a good situation it usually has nothing to do with something they did.
