U.S. Men’s National Team to face Ecuador in Copa quarters

The U.S. Men’s National Team won’t just be enjoying a the spoils of a voracious home crowd in Seattle — they will also be facing a very familiar opponent.

With their victory over Haiti, Ecuador has booked their place in the Copa America Centenario against the USMNT at CenturyLink Field. While Brazil and Peru have yet to play, Ecuador losses on both tiebreakers with a draw or outright victory for either side, guaranteeing their matchup against the stars and stripes.

Coincidentally, the U.S. faced Ecuador at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas in the lead up to the Copa America tournament, beating their South American rivals 1-0. Darlington Nagbe scored on the day to give the U.S. a comfortable victory over Ecuador.

The U.S. is 3-5-5 against Ecuador all-time. However, they are 3-1-2 against them since 2002 and have faced them three times since 2011 (1-1-1).

The winner of Brazil, Peru will win Group B, and will face Colombia on June 17. The U.S. will face Ecuador on the 16.
