After a dreadful start to the game in which the U.S. yielded two goals in the first seven minutes, Josh Sargent scored twice and then Luca De La Torre scored the equalizer four minutes into second-half stoppage time as the American squad escaped with the draw.

Ecuador jumped on top on goals by Herlín Lino and Bryan Cabezas that put the U.S., winners of the CONCACAF qualifying tournament, on its heels.

Sargent brought the U.S. within a goal when he scored in the 36th minute. Luca De La Torre made a slicing run through the midfield and lead Sargent into the box on the right. Sargent took one touch to control before blasting a shot past José Cevallos and inside the near post. Sargent scored again 10 minutes into the second half to knot the score. Red Bulls midfielder Tyler Adams found Brooks Lennon on the right flank. Lennon sent a pinpoint cross that eluded the Ecuador’s back line and fell for Sargent, who headed back across goal.

Ecuador regained the lead in the 64th minute when a U.S. goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann tried to dribble around Wilter Ayoví, only to push the ball into the path of Cabezas who gave the South American squad a 3-2 lead.

With time running out on the American team, Lennon served a cross from the right that was partially cleared by an Ecuador defender, but fell straight into the path of De La Torre, who stepped up and hit a first-time effort inside the lower-right post.

Next up for the U.S. will be a game on Thursday (7 a.m. Eastern, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports Go, Telemundo) against Senegal, a 2-0 winner over Saudi Arabia in the other match in Group F on Monday.
