UK Reports: Henry To Sign Two Month Deal With Arsenal, May Debut Monday

Thierry Henry has been offered a two month loan deal to ply his trade with Arsenal, according to exclusive reports from the Daily Mail.

The Mails story compounds upon the recent pervasive chatter of the Frenchman’s inevitable move to the club of his legend. The hype has even seen current Arsenal players like Per Mertesacker glow about the possibility of playing alongside the Gunners legend and New York Red Bulls captain. “Henry has a lot of experience and he is a great opportunity for us,” said the German defender. “But I am not the manager and I do not know what is possible, for him or for us.”

It is no secret that Henry has been a transfer target, but this marks the first report of an actual offer. Wenger claimed he would take the Christmas break to think about offering Henry a loan, but refused to elaborate on his thoughts after the Gunners disappointing draw against Wolverhampton this weekend. Today’s report makes the possibility seem far more palpable.

Not to be outdone, UK tabloid The Daily Star compounds on the Mail’s report, claiming a deal will be inked upon the start of the transfer window this Sunday, with a debut date set for that very Monday when Arsenal takes on Fulham FC.

The Star also reveals Henry’s weekly salary will be in the range of £70,000 (or $108k) a week and that the Red Bulls, for their part, wanted to finalize an insurance policy for the loan just in case Henry falls injured as his counterpart David Beckham did when he was on loan with AC Milan (Beckham would go on to miss the majority of the 2010 MLS season).

@Dave J: Seriously. What exactly is RBNY’s plan for the off season? We saw Soler’s video, and then that’s it. Zero signings. Hardly any rumors. Nothing. It’s not looking good. But, happy for Henry. Hope it happens and he does well: it’ll only lift the interest and profile of red bull when he comes back.
