U.S. v Ukraine moved to Cyprus as political unrest grows

USSF Ukraine

Ukraine honored U.S. Soccer’s request for a change of venue as death and civil unrest continue to inundate Kiev under the weight of a revolution.

The match, which will still take place on March 5th, has changed venues to the southern Republic of Cyprus. It is the second time a major sporting event has had to change venues due to the ongoing violence in the capitol city following the Dynamo Kiev v. Valencia Europa League fixture which was also moved to Cyprus.

A host city and kickoff time will be announced at a later date.

Anti-government protests left dozens of people killed and led to the ousting of Ukraine president, Viktor Yanukovich. Kiev continues to be under siege despite a proclaimed accord between both parties. Ukraine’s second largest, Kharkiv, is now experiencing similar political unrest.
