USL Pro released their fixtures for the 2012 season, featuring eleven teams vying for glory in a single table, 24 game competition.
Conspicuously absent amongst this years competitors? FC New York.
This afternoon, USL President Tim Holt released a statement on the leagues relationship with the team:
“USL appreciates the work of the Treiber family to support FC New York in the 2011 USL PRO season and wish them success in their future endeavors. We have no further comment on the discontinuation of the team’s participation in USL at this time other than that we believe it to be in the best interests of both entities.”
The announcement of the teams discontinued participation in USL follows Empire of Soccer’s report last week quoting sources within the organization claiming FCNY would fold operations.
FC New York has yet to release a statement on the situation.
