Following Saturday’s ugly assault by Pittsburgh Riverhounds player Romeo Parkes on New York Red Bulls II defender Karl Ouimette, the United Soccer League has issued a statement, condemning the attack and suspending Parkes pending investigation.

The incident occurred in the 86th minute of Saturday’s encounter. After Ouimette and Parkes were booked for a red card, the Riverhounds player kicked the Red Bulls defender from behind with a brutal front kick, dropping the Canadian international and forcing him to be carted off the field.

Ouimette was on loan with NYRBII from the Red Bulls senior team.

There is no official word on the condition of Ouimette. However, he was taken to the hospital last night and was reportedly walking well — a key concern after being kicked in the spine.
