It’s about time!!

That has to be the thoughts of many United States Men’s National Team fans. The U.S. finally displayed that attacking mentality long since promised by Jurgen Klinsmann when it counted. If 3-1 wasn’t good enough, don’t let the score fool you, the U.S. could have scored more. However, securing qualification to the Hex dictated the late conservative strategy.

So, the U.S. advances to the Hex, winning Group A on a high note. But before looking forward, let’s look back and at player ratings:

Tim Howard – GK: 5

Wasn’t too solid in goal though he was tested rarely. Poor communication with Bocanegra led to one goal. A poor touch on another ball nearly led to a second.

Steve Cherundolo – RB: 6

Solid as always, good on defense, solid in attack. Cherundolo is a perennial 6

Geoff Cameron – CB: 6.5

Nice rebound from his poor match Friday. He certainly should be manning the position through Brazil.

Carlos Bocanegra – CB: 5.5

Redeemed himself with a goal, but that severe miscommunication with Howard is alarming. Two veterans should not have allowed such a goal

Michael Parkhurst – LB: 6.5

Notice a difference from Friday night? The U.S. had width in their attack. Parkhurst is no Fabian Johnson, but he can fill in when needed.

Danny Williams – CM: 7

Another excellent night from the youngster. Displayed great ball skill as well as some cheeky defensive stops, also made the occasional run into the offensive zone

Michael Bradley – CM: 7

Excellent night from the field general. Setup Dempsey, controlled the midfield. He’s a star for the U.S.

Graham Zusi – CM: 7

Great night for Zusi in front of his home crowd. Cool on the ball, aides well in the attack. Got an assist on Bocanegra’s goal. Certainly has earned a spot for the U.S.in the immediate future.

Clint Dempsey – F: 9

The whole team rebounded from a mediocre night in Antigua, none more than Clint Dempsey. Two goals and an assist, Deuce took control of the match. A late dive is a mild blemish on his performance.

Eddie Johnson – F: 6

Great assist on Dempsey’s first goal. Still had some shaky moments including whiffing on what should’ve been goal 4.

Herculez Gomez – F: 6

Decent rebound game from his poor showing in Antigua. Aggressive in attack and created a few chances for his teammates as well.

Subs:

Sacha Kljestan – RM: 6.5

He clearly has to be considered a late offensive sub after tonight’s energetic performance coupled with Friday’s.

Maurice Edu – CM: 6.5

Aided in keeping possession and killing the match late, what more can you ask of the man.

Joe Corona – CM: Inc

Nice aggression late in his cameo.
