One of the United States’ most-decorated professional athletes has joined the English club Manchester City.

Carli Lloyd, a two-time FIFA Women’s Player of the Year, two-time Olympic gold medal winner, and a World Cup winner, has signed a contract with Manchester City’s women’s team for the 2017 Spring Series, FA Women’s Cup, and UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign.

Lloyd will be joining a strong team that recently celebrated a double after winning the Women’s Super League Title and the FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup. In addition to this superb season, Manchester City remained undefeated in the league and continues to break domestic attendance records.

Lloyd will join the Man City squad in early March after the SheBelieves Cup in the United States, allowing the 34-year-olld midfielder to participate in Manchester City’s UEFA Women’s Champions League quarterfinal game against Danish club Fortuna Hjorring.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Manchester City, a Club which is leading the development of women’s football both on and off the pitch,” Lloyd said.

“Having played in the US throughout my career, the chance to fulfill a long-held ambition to test myself in a new footballing environment, as well as playing in the Champions League, is something I am relishing.

“With the challenge of the Spring Series and the FA Women’s Cup ahead of us, too, I really can’t wait to pull on my City shirt in front of our fans and make them proud.”

Lloyd recently played for the Houston Dash in the National Women’s Soccer League where she made 17 appearances and scored 6 goals. Since 2005, the New Jersey native has made 232 appearances for the United States and scored 96 goals.
