The New York Cosmos are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in a very unique way.

Following reports from El Diario, EoS can independently confirm plans for an old timers match between legends from the Colombian national team and the Mexican national team at Shuart Stadium.

The event is scheduled to take place as part of a double header on September 22nd following the Cosmos, Ottawa Fury match in Hofstra.

El Diario reports Colombian legend Carlos “El Pibe Valderrama will lead a Colombian side which will also include “Tino” Asprilla and Adolfo “Tren” Valencia while Mexico will feature national team greats Jorge Campos, Jared Borgetti and Luis “Matador” Hernández.

EoS could not confirm the full roster of participants at the time of this report, nor is it known if this match will be part of the cost of admission to the Fury encounter.

Once made official, this will be the first time the New York Cosmos will use their Shuart Stadium confines for purposes outside of their NASL, NPSL or Cosmos Copa matches.

There’ no denying that the Cosmos do some fun ****, but they really need to do a better job on the basics – attendance, stadium, etc

  • slowleftarm

Have to fill the lacrosse stadium somehow because they sure aren’t coming out to watch Hempstead Cosmos.

    • cosmosfan

It reminds of the dark days at Giant Stadium and the New York Red Bulls.

      Except with trophies.

      • send over the RFP

well, ‘trophies’. technically all my participation **** from rec basketball are trophies, doesn’t mean I’ve won the Larry O’Brien

        • slowleftarm

What trophy did they win last season? Oh that’s right – the biggest global brand in the universe couldn’t even win a minor league championship last season.

          • slowrightarm

Oh Christ if I hear Cosmos fans talk about trophies anymore I’m gonna puke. If the Cosmos played in MLS they’d be 2-30-2 at best. My kid gets trophies all the time. Kinda meaningless if you really think about it.

            • OpenCupFan

Like the Supporters shield you mean?

              • Coach Reeves

The Cosmos have no future. Then who will you root for? The Chattanooga jerkwaters? The Richmond whatevers?
Get a clue, pal. And get a stadium. College soccer is more interesting than that minor league outfit you follow.

  • US Soccer Fan

I guess they are trying as best they can, maybe there will be more than 4k people there for once, and at least it isn’t a cosmos/Hofstra lacrosse doubleheader.

If you want to support US Soccer development, look to your MLS sides, they are bringing the good young future players up.

    • Anonymous

Sadly you’re horribly wrong, there are national players in the NASL as well as youth U-17 & U-21 national players in the league as well.

      • slowleftarm

Other than Haji Wright and the other 17 year old they just signed who are you talking about? Ibarra left NASL.

        • OpenCupFan

Convenient how you neglect to mention where Ibarra went. I bet his rights were sold for more than any player mls crap show moved this year.

          • slowleftarm

Ibarra was sold for $1m while Yedlin moved for $5m. Nice try though.

            • OpenCupFan

That’s one in 20 years, congratulations. Best part, he wasn’t even trained in mls and now mls is cheating the club that actually trained him. Congratulations again to your league, you must be so proud.

              • Larry’s A Simpleton

you’re the doof sporting wood over a $1m transfer. you must be proud.

  • Ulrich

Will Campos wear his signature ultra flashy & baggy keeper jersey or something a bit more practical and current? That could be a decent “office pool.”

Between his theatrics out of the box and Valderrama’s bulls-eye passing, could be fun to watch.

  • John

Who the hell wants to watch OLD retired Colombian and Mexicans Players and then you have to watch another game between 2 second division games ,is this the equivalent of soccer hell.

    • OpenCupFan

Sounds like you’re talking about an average mls game.

      • john

This the Cosmos that are putting together this game so what your point?

You can’t accept the fact that you root for a second division team that no one in NY cares about them, the press does not cover the cosmos , the media does not know they exist and by their 3,000 fans a game the fans don’t care.

That is what happens in New York when you are second division team — No one cares!!!

  • Larry’s A Simpleton

Who wants to go all the way out to nassau county to see a bunch of washed up has beens?

Although the mexican and colombian old timers will be interesting.

wonder how many get contract offers from the f.cosmos?

    • Hooligan Harry

      That’s right

Why go all the way to Hofstra to see washed up has beens when you can just go to Yankee Stadium and see Lampard?????

      • Luis

lmao Hooligan Harry just killed your comment dumb larry

  • US Soccer Fan

well I guess yankee stadium is closer for most, maybe that’s why NYCFC attendance is 29000 and they only get 3000 in long island?…..

If you want to support US Soccer development, look to your MLS sides, they are bringing the good young future players up.

    • us soccer supporter

The only thing you are supporting by supporting mls is the pockets of single entity. Support independent soccer, not a drink or a satellite club.

      • Larry’s A Simpleton

yeah, or some farce that pretends its the same team from the 70’s

    • send over the RFP

you’re gonna end every comment with that last line? how bitter are you?

        • Larry’s A Simpleton

f.cosmos arent good for anything…………except laughs

  • Hooligan Harry

Yes, good young players like Lampard and Pirlo.

  • Pink tacos

Well, mall of the sudden we have a battle of friendlies with red bull and cosmos.
Red bull arena has gone crazy hosting friendlies and cosmos want some of it.
I can’t wait for the LA galaxy vs LAfc derby, it will be better than the red bull vs NYC.
C’mon cosmos move out of Hofstra and play in Brooklyn.

    • slowleftarm

Right RBA hosted the champions of England and Shuart is hosting some old Colombian dudes.

      • OpenCupFan

Those guys don’t even know the name of your McWendys franchise.

        • slowleftarm

Considering Valderrama played in MLS I’d imagine he does.

          • OpenCupFan

I Iike how you don’t dispute you’re a McWendys fan.

            • Larry’s A Simpleton

30000 > 3000. lash out all you want doof. the reality is nycfc is a success and the mighty f.cosmos are a major fail. and you can whine all you want, that fact isnt going to change. hey. maybe the f.cosmos can sign pele. that’ll bring em in

  • Anthony

i wont lie, id watch Valderama play even if he was 60. Seems like an entertaining way to spend an hour or so.

  • Scott

Why do all of the Red Bull, NYCFC, and any other fan have to automatically hate on the Cosmos for trying new tactics? So what they draw 3-4 thousand fans a game. In a market they are in its a tough business and competing against a club with their own stadium and another in the famous Yankee Stadium makes it harder. Oh wow bash them for not having their own stadium. They are working on it and NYCFC will see just how hard it is do so soon enough. So everyone keeping hating its comical reading the comments. Just support US soccer at every level cause everyone that hates on the Cosmos and the NASL and the USL well in the end really don’t want to see US soccer grow.

    • 5 Boroughs SC

Why do Cosmos supporters have to hate on MLS, Red Bulls and NYCFC? Last time i checked, a large part of the USMNT roster was comprised of MLS players.

      • Scott

        Works both ways.

    • john

I dislike the BS you hear from the Cosmos fans about the brand.

They don’t seem to understand that they have no future , they are stuck in the second division of soccer with no way out.

So you can bitch all you want about the MLS , the redbulls , NYCFC and any other complaints about the MLS. Buyt they are the top league with TV deals, radio deals digital marketing deals, major sponsorships, stadiums, actual fans in the stands.

I understand that is hard to deal with but its reality whether you like it or not.

    • Larry’s A Simpleton

because f.cosmos fans are delusional assholes who really cant handle reality. they deserve everything that comes their way

      • Larry’s a Simpleton and dreams big

Speaking of assholes, I had that dream about Frank Lampard and a container of butter again last night.

Man, I gotta stop watching “Last Tango.”

Exactly right that a majority of US Nat. teamers are from MLS, or developed by MLS, that is why anyone who is a US Soccer Fan should support MLS. Single entity or not, it is the league putting the most amount of funds and effort into top tier youth player development for the US. Look at the Red Bulls with Miazga, Davis, Lade and more to come… Altidore, Ream and Bradley also all played there.

Don’t see any such names that have played at or been developed by the Cosmos?…

  • Pink tacos

I’m gonna be honest, I want 3 teams in the New York area and other 3 in the Los Angeles area. It’s possible and I know garber wouldn’t mind that, given that those cities can handle 3 teams and have enough fans for a 20something thousand stadium.
So by saying that, hopefully red bull stays alive in the next 10 years or rebrands to reach their potential and cosmos join MLS with their stadium.
In LA, I’m pretty sure LAFC will do just fine and galaxy will have to remodel or get a new stadium but a third team in LA would be crazy stuff, maybe bringing back maybe the LAAztecs.
Imagine having 9 sexy dps in LA and other 9 in New York.
C’mon MLS go for 32 teams and add a 3rd team in New York and Los Angeles. The cosmos and LA Aztecs.

    • Pink tacos

So stop talking smack about each other and dream big,new York and LA can easily support a 3rd team.
Red bull in jersey, NYC in the Bronx or Brooklyn, cosmos in Brooklyn or queens.
Galaxy in Carson or downtown, LAFC in the middle and Aztecs by east Los Angeles.

  • Kevin

You have to love Larry, according to him the cosmos suck, yet his, team lost to them. And slow, left arm is all, about his supporters shield. The one trophy in 20 years. U know the one that is according to him as important as actually winning the MLS cup which is what everyone I thought was playing for. But whatever, besides the attendance problem which is HUGE, everything else u bring up is just the same old tired arguments.

What’s with some clueless MLS fans. Look, you can keep on dreaming that the thing this large country need is a half assed league that’s to patriotic and stupid to build the global game right. Face it. There is a reason why MLS is our 4th first division we had under the USSF. Because mostly every country have divisions that are united, organized and viewed under the same light because the main objective is growing soccer nationally. That’s something you don’t understand because are divisons are unorganized, unprofessional, dysfunctional and a laughing stock even with Americans within this country. While other country been threw two leagues to the most in it’s country’s history, we went through 4 or 5.

The reason why the youth looks the way it does because Klinsmann is pulling the strings, not MLS. Give credit where credit is due. MLS will be nothing without the NCAA developing the players for them. There are only a small few of players that never played abroad that’s average and above. Only Besler fits the average level bill while the other MLS players are mediocre. Wondo is the best scoring MLS player now and he sucks under real competition. Even Donovan flops during tough competitions and he supposed to be the best American player ever in history. He could not win one CONCACAF Championship League title, make the finals and could not make the first team in both German clubs he was in in his history.

Some youth support. Until this year, those youth players could not afford to live on they’re own. Now, they make the same amount as a 4th division reserve league European league player. MLS fans are acting to high and mighty, but they don’t have the league to act that way. Also, you are not a American soccer fans. You support MLS and MLS only. MLS is against the traditional way of soccer, so the only thing you support is a marketing brand. I will continue supporting the NASL and foreign soccer. Before you get on me about watching European soccer, MLS is using players that became famous there to gain fan support and profit. That includes our national team players that return.

  • US Soccer Fan

it does not really matter what exactly is “traditional” soccer, nor does each country have to adhere to it 100%, there are different ways to do things – and MLS happens to be a single entity model designed to maximize growth of the game and minimize the potential down sides – it is good for business generally but this is also good to ensure the future investments being put into homegrown MLS players – the future of US Soccer.

MLS has helped develop the majority of US National team members and will continue on that path, so that is why fans should support the league. The nasl has basically helped produce no one of any consequence for the national team setup.

Genius, pure genius. 1. Have Colombian fathers and grandfathers fr Queens bring their son to the game, check. Have Mexicans dad’s bring their squad to the game, from Nassau and create new fans, check. 2. Their players get tip from these great legends and build status and network, check. 3. Have the cans red boll n fake nyc hate…double check.
