Video: Melee in the Tunnel at BMO Field

cup logoLots of pushing. Lots of shoving. Lots of loud voices. Two ejections.

That was the game within the game on Sunday when the New York Red Bulls won Leg 2 or their Major League Soccer Eastern Conference semifinal at BMO Field in Toronto. The Red Bulls won the game, but lost the series on away goals.

Just before halftime, the game descended into near-chaos after a foul on Tyler Adams by Sebastian Giovinco. After Jozy Altidore intervened and sparked even more pushing and shoving, he and Sacha Kljestan became involved in a shoving match, with Altidore falling to the ground in mock pain.

It didn’t end there. The two teams engaged in a melee inside the tunnel under the stands. Altidore and Kljestan were ejected. Below is a video of part of the incident that involved players and the two coaches — TFC’s Greg Vanney and Red Bulls’ Jesse Marsch.
