HARRISON, N.J. – Video review worked in New York Red Bull II’s favor for the second week in a row as a penalty kick converted by Brandon Allen gives the team a 1-0 win over Louisville City FC on Friday night.

“We got the benefit of a couple calls,” said John Wolyniec when speaking about two weeks of video replay calls that have benefited his team to this point. “I thought the PK for us was fairly clear. We get the benefit of the call so that’s great.”

The play in question occurred in the 73rd minute when a Louisville player collided with Junior Flemmings at the top of the 18 yard box. The referee initially appeared to give the foul to Louisville’s advantage. However, the Jamaican international stood his ground forcing the official to review the play. The outcome was the game deciding penalty kick.

The first half was a stalemate between both teams. Louisville had the better of the opportunities but New York dominated possession. A ball did squeeze by Ryan Meara midway through the first half but Louisville was called offside.

“They’re a good team,” said Wolyniec when speaking about Louisville’s effectiveness. “They certainly made it hard on us. It took us a long time to get our goal. They’re organized and they work hard.”

The game heated up in the second half with a chance in the 60th minute for Florian Valot. Junior Flemmings played a smart ball on the ground in the box right to the feet of Valot. The young winger put the ball over the net for the team’s best opportunity. The penalty kick in the 70th minute represented Brandon Allen’s 11th goal of the season and the goal that decided the game.

The win puts New York in sole possession of first place and makes them the first USL team in 2016 to clinch a playoff spot. They now head on the road to play Toronto FC II.
