PURCHASE, N.Y. – New York City FC would be willing to trade Mix Diskerud if an appropriate offer was made, head coach Patrick Vieira said.

“He is going through a difficult period because he is an international player and he needs and wants to play,” Vieira said. “I can understand his frustrations and if there is team that is around that is interested then as a club we will talk about it.”

Vieira said that any talk of a move for Diskerud would be speculation. However, Diskerud has not made the match day squad since NYCFC’s Open Cup loss on June 15. The two had a lengthy discussion after training this morning. Vieira said Diskerud is behind Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and Mikey Lopez on the central midfield depth chart.

“If he wants to play, he will have to do more than what he is doing the past few weeks,” Vieira said. “He has to do more than what the other people are doing because at the position he plays, we are happy with the players who have been there lately.”

A potential move for Diskerud comes on the heels of NYCFC’s reported interest in Luxembourg center back Maxime Chanot. According to NYCFC Nation, Chanot is set to join the club from Belgian KV Kortijik on contract through 2018 after completing his medical in Manchester. Vieira declined to comment on the potential move.

NYCFC do not have an international slot on its roster for Chanot. It can acquire an international slot through trade or it can move one of its international players in any method.
