Wednesday night, Patrick Vieira argued to the referees while walking off the field. Saturday, he strode to the stadium host and declared how proud he was of the team for scoring twice in the final ten minutes to defeat the Philadelphia Union.

Vieira quickly transitioned into discussing New York City FC as a ‘long project’. He has been at the club for a year-and-a-half and involved within City Football Group for four. In what is likely to be the first of many rumors involving him, he was linked by Radio Monte Carlo to the vacant Saint-Etienne job this past week. Vieira was asked if it was his intention to remain working with this ‘project’ despite the talk.

“Of course,” he said, twice.

“The only thing is you can’t control reports from journalists. The thing is that it is a really interesting project and I am into it. I love every single day of it. Speculation is part of our world and I get used to it.”

A dearth of soccer this summer may make this summer particularly rife with transfer and coaching rumors. There are empty air waves and pages to fill as are vacancies to fill like the one with the mid-table side. It just doesn’t appear that Vieira will be filling it.
