Paulo Sousa so far:
- five coaching jobs in five years
- two firings in which he lasted less than five months
- one leaving by “mutual consent”
- two broken three-year contracts shortly after first years
- win percentages (26.9% QPR, 36.7% Swansea, 33.3% Leicester, 58% Videoton)
- training methods criticized by former club captains and managerial successors
- zero MLS experience
It’s very easy to criticize someone with little or no knowledge of the situation. Sousa had a very successful stay while at Swansea and left thinking the Leicester job was a good opportunity which turned out not to be, limited resources and did not get the players he was promised. Sousa now asked to leave videoton for a better pay day, can you blame him? Ask Videotom supporters what they think of Sousa, he is loved and captured 3 titles in 18 months at the club and had a historic run in Europe. He has a very good overall record, it looks like a good get if we can secure his services.
Very little knowledge, eh? Then, why are you not mentioning that Sousa did not achieve the goals set for him at Swansea? Further, how about more quotes about Sousa from Swansea, which you are claiming was such a success for Sousa?
- Swansea legend Lee Trundle also revealed in his autobiography the stubbornness of Sousa and his reluctance to make changes when things were not going Swansea’s way, just like they were not in the closing months of the season: “He’d (Sousa) done brilliantly to begin with, but when things started to slide, he didn’t change anything. We’d be too reluctant to go for it in games and it cost us…..”
Shall we continue?
How about Garry Monk who, not only criticized his training methods with the club but also, said, “Looking back now, I’m glad we didn’t get into the play-offs with Paulo, as he did not deserve to be the one to take us to the Premiership.”
By the way, Garry Monk was Swansea captain. Usually that gives you a measure of credibility, wouldn’t you say?
Or, how about the fact that Paulo Sousa is an onward and upward kind of guy? He sees something better, he moves on. He doesn’t care about the clubs he coaches. Here are his own words. If he feels a better club is calling, he will leave.
“When I make steps it is because I feel it is a better step than before.”
We deserve better.
