Siniša Ubiparipović picked a heck of a time to tally his first goal of the year.

Indy Eleven and FC Edmonton scrapped it out in the first hour of Saturday’s semifinal matchup at Michael Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis, with neither side being able to break the scoreless deadlock.

That all changed in the 63th minute when Ubiparipović capitalized on a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area. Indy’s leading scorer Eamon Zayed ran into a wall of Edmonton defenders inside the box and slipped a pass toward Dylan Mares, but a tackle prevented the midfielder from collecting the ball. The ball trickled outside of the box and Ubiparipović swooped in to one-time a shot into the top right corner.

The visiting Eddies knocked on the door in the 87th minute in hopes of keeping their Soccer Bowl hopes alive, but veteran keeper Jon Busch produced an outstanding stop to protect the lead. Edmonton’s Tomi Ameobi rose to head a cross into the bottom right corner only to be stonewalled by a clutch diving save from Busch.

The win advances Indy to the championship final next week where they will meet the winner of the league’s other semifinal match between the New York Cosmos and Rayo OKC.
