Australian boss Holger Osieck took a big gamble in the 77th minute, subbing out a perplexed and vexed Tim Cahill for Nagoya Grampus’ target man Josh Kennedy.

The risk yielded rewards.

Stepping in for one of Australia’s largest sporting icons, Kennedy rose above the pressure – and the Iraqi defenders – heading home the game winning goal in the 83rd minute and booking the Socceroos ticket to the World Cup. They join fellow CAF competitor Japan and host Brazil as the only teams to qualify.
