Rise in Yankees’ credit tips NYCFC stadium move; Inwood pol voices opposition

A report from the SportsBusiness Journal on Monday suggests that the near doubling of the New York Yankees credit limit hints at a possible investment towards a stadium deal for New York City FC.

That report sparked vocal opposition from New York City Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, representative of long-rumored stadium site, Inwood, N.Y.

The SBJ report states that Yankee Global Enterprises, the holding company for the Major League Baseball outfit, increased the credit facility for the Yankees to $300 million. The report cites sources claiming the Yankees will not use those funds for team operations, sparking conjecture that those extra moneys will be allocated towards a stadium for NYCFC.

Nowhere in the report does it name a possible location. However, the Inwood community has long been a rumored target area for a potential stadium stemming from discussions between NYCFC and Columbia University last year over a rehaul and renovation of the school’s Bakers Field location.

Though Inwood was not mentioned, Rodriguez, an influential member of the City Council, went on the offensive Monday afternoon, once again declaring his opposition to the rumored project.

“With speculation in some corners today over the building of a new NYCFC stadium somewhere in NYC, I want to reassure my community that I stand firmly opposed to construction at the Baker’s Field site in Inwood,” Rodriguez said via Facebook.

like the f.cosmos and their fans who are desperate for any type of attention, i think mr rodriguez doth protest too much. i guess he figures its his way of getting face time in the newspapers.

the new stdium is going across the street from yankee stadium where the parking garages and gal is located. anyone who thinks they’re going at colombia u is dumb enough to travel to nassau county.

another day closer to the f.cosmos going belly up “TWICE IN A LIFETIME”!

    • Hamlet Shakespeare

” i think mr rodriguez doth protest too much.”

what are you saying? are you suggesting he wants it to be in inwood? because i think that phase is used to indicate someones intentions are opposite what they protest. Not that he just protests to get more screen time.

      • Dr. Freud

Larry misunderstands the quote because he has never read it in its original context. He is very limited in his knowledge of literature and culture.

We have been trying to work with him on this at the Institute, but, as of now, it has not been met with success.

    • slowleftarm

hahaahahahaha Larry what a smuck you are

      dumb fucker

  • DanGerman

Looks like he’s angling for some free press, I think even he knows that the site in the Bronx is the one the team is looking at but He’ll say that he “protected” Inwood from NYCFC even though their interest in that site was minimal.

  • Kevin

HA HA. Thanks Larry for bringing up the Cosmos in an article just about your team. You just can’t stop. But like i said you basically believe everything you make up anyway. Thanks again for the attention to the Cosmos.

  • Pz

Ydanis Rodriguez in real life is a really nice guy during the times I’ve met him. I would totally vote for him if I lived in his district. Maybe I’ll consider volunteering for his next campaign.

  • Cosmo

    What will happen first?
Will cosmos get their stadium first or nycfc, or will red bull sell out consecutively.

  • slowleftarm

The Cosmos will get their stadium, The Metrostars will be moving to Camden and The NY Shittty football club will continue to be the NY Shitty football club. Yet Dan German and Larry will keep telling us but what about the 40,000 we get every week for the next 24 months. really 2 morons.

    • DanGerman

Whoa there Faux slowleftarm, I firmly believe that one day the Cosmos will have a place to call their own. Same with NYCFC. So why don’t you use your real name or even better create one that isn’t close to someone elses.

      • slowleftarm

Whoa Danny Boy what do u mean u loco man

        • DanGerman

Slowleftarm with a Capital S is the real one you’re an imposter. the original slow is a RB fan. YOU are a troll. So in the end you’re a poor joke of a human being who can’t even say things in a constructive way and gets a kick out of saying stupid and juvenile things. Get it now or do you need me to draw you a picture as well, sunshine.

          • slowleftarm

whoa whoa DANNY BOY off your meds ? LOSER !

            • DanGerman

Well aren’t you a sad piece of excrement aren’t you. Slow day at your mom’s today? Not pulling Johns like she used too?

              • Yaki

                stop bullying people Dan

                • DanGerman

So now you’re using your real name, huh. So taking a page out of Jspech\Opencupfans book. Sad really, people shouldn’t say terrible things to other people if they’re not prepared to receive the same.

                  • Luke

whats so terrible ? little sensitive there

                    • DanGerman

Not so much as terrible but inane and stupid.

                  • Luke

can we get back to talking soccer and what a mess the NYCFC is ?

                    • DanGerman

Let’s wait to call NYCFC a mess until after the season is over. Everyone thought the RB’s last year would be a mess and they weren’t. I think the team will be better though so we’ll see.

              • MTF

Dan chill dude this is a fan site we all love soccer. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

                • DanGerman

Again you don’t want to hear it don’t say it. I don’t come here often because of all the trolls well when you troll a troll its not exactly a sin is it?

                  • MTF

                    ok ok geezzzz

                  • David

Dan you hold the old Slow as some sort of nontroll that guy is one of the biggest trolls on this site. If you take notice of his comments which obviously you don’t it would be 20 negative Cosmo comments to 1 comment about the RB’s his team. Stop misrepresenting things and manipulating it is really getting old.

                    • DanGerman

On the contrary the original Slow WAS a RB troll and much like Larry tended to go to the extreme. I never said he was a saint its just this impostor is a clown where a different clowns make up. At least he could come up with his own handle but he probably has 3 or four different ones because he’s “clever”.

                  • Luke

but it always ends bad for the RB that franchise is jinxed

                    • DanGerman

No argument there, RB has shown that in 20 years they can’t get it down and I don’t think the current ownership and its lack of spending is going to take them to a Championship. With Miazga now going to the EPL they’re probably going to just sign some young defender for no money and just say the “philosophy” of playing young players will win out. Curtis and Marsch have to be careful not to fall into the trap of thinking they can outsmart everyone else in the league that’s a recipe for disaster. Just look at Chip Kelly and the Eagles and Mourinho and Chelsea for examples when you think that way.

      • slowleftarm

yea enjoy the 40,000 every game on route to anther disasterous season remember Danny Boy keep reupping on those season tickets and allllllll your Shitty Foooty jerseys. hahhahahahaahhaaha lost soul.

        • DanGerman

So you pretend to be Slow and yet I”M the lost soul….

  • slowleftarm

hhahahahaa nice lame ploy Danny Boy

  • slowleftarm

    POKU POWER DANNY hahahahahahahaahahahahaha

  • Philip

Kudos to the councilman for speaking up for his district but he should wait until a site is announced.

  • William

As I said previously Dan the Rb’s are the NY Rangers of MLS. Same story that always ends the same way. A lot people mock the Cosmos but they win and win and win some more.

    • DanGerman

I don’t think you can even call them the Rangers of MLS. Remember the Rangers WON a Stanley Cup in 94 the RB’s haven’t won jack in over 20 years (Supporters Shield is nice but not a championship or Cup). The Cosmos issues aren’t winning its relevance and playing in Hempstead to sub 5K crowds on the regular don’t help with that. Especially when NYCFC draws considerably more. They need to move and they need to refocus their marketing efforts IMO.

      • William

in my opinion you can. In terms of how many very good teams they have had over the years and nothing no cups. Please see the rags the last 3 years. really 1 cup in 86 years the other 3 I don’t count as there were only 6 teams in the league at that time. I go to every Cosmo game where as its not every game where there are sub 5k crowds that is simply not true but they do have an attendance problem. They need to move and get a creative marketing campaign. They missed an opportunity to use Raul to create a buzz and sell the product to the public.

        • DanGerman

The issue with Raul was two fold in my opinion, the first he was already 2 years removed from playing any kind of competitive football and he’s name and cachet wasn’t at a level that would move the needle in the way the Cosmos needed. The second issue was the clubs infatuation with playing games in foreign countries and focusing there efforts there instead of back home. I heard they got paid good money which is great but you need to focus on the people back home the fans in Cuba, El Salvador and Hong Kong aren’t going to do much here in NYC. Next season its going to be more of the same I fear with regards to attendance, they again have crappy dates and I just can’t see things working out if they stay at Hofstra.
