Yanks Abroad: Under-the-Radar Roundup

US logoWith domestic leagues in the United States heading into or already in their postseasons, the focus obviously falls on the doings in Major League Soccer, the North American Soccer League and the United Soccer League. And while national team players like Christian Pulisic and DeAndre Yedlin are always on our radar, some lesser-known Yanks Abroad deserve some pub.

Gboly Ariyibi (MK Dons)

MK Dons has been in the middle of the table through the entire League 1 season and appear to be stuck there. MK Dons lost, 2-0, to Bristol Rovers. Ariybi played 80 minutes on the wing.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (Sheffield United)

Sheffield United remain on top in the table in the League Championship after defeating Leeds, 2-1, over the weekend. Carter-Vickers played the entire match as a center back. A late 81st-minute goal by David Brooks gave Sheffield with the win.

Rubio Rubin (Stabaek)

Rubin has yet to find a firm role with Stabaek, merely playing a role as a late sub. Since joining in August, Rubin has appeared in seven games (118 minutes). His latest appearance was in Stabaek’s 0-0 draw against Rosenborg in which Rubin played 15 minutes.

Kenneth Kronholm (Holstein Kiel)

Holstein’s Kiels quest for first place in 2.Bundesliga stalled after a weekend 1-1 draw against Darmstadt Kronholm played in goal but was unable to grab his third shutout of the season. Holstein Kiel is in second in the league.

Haji Wright (Sandhausen)

After a strong start to the season, Sanhausen has recently fallen into an October rut in the 2.Bundesliga. After winning at the beginning of month, it has only picked up one point of a possible three. Wright has played in both of the losses as a center forward and has been unable to boost offensive production. He played 39 minutes in a 2-1 loss Greuther Furth.

Conor O’Brien (Start)

Start is in pole position for promotion to Norway’s top division. With the OBOS-ligaen season nearing the end, it is in second in the league’s final automatic promotion spot. Although they have a safe lead, they fell 1-0 to Elverum Fotball, 1-0, on Sunday. O’Brien played 74 minutes as a defensive midfielder.

Jonathan Bornstein (Queretaro)

Queretaro picked up a much-needed point against Atlas on Saturday night. In the 2-2 draw, Queretaro moved away from Liga MX’s bottom spot, which is now occupied by Pumas UNAM. Bornstein played the entire match at right back.
