Yanks Abroad: Weekend Roundup

US logoAs Major League Soccer heads into the playoffs, Americans abroad are still relatively early in their seasons.

From Germany to Mexico, here is how a few Yanks Abroad did over the weekend.

Christian Pulisic (Dortmund)

Dortmund struggled this past week. It lost to RB Leipzig, drew against APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League, and then tied Eintracht Frankfurt in Bundesliga action. Pulisic played the entire match against Frankfurt but was unable to leave a lasting impact.

DeAndre Yedlin (Newcastle)

Yedlin has started five of five games since he returned from his preseason hamstring injury. He played the full 90 in Newcastle’s 1-0 win against Crystal Palace. Mikel Merino scored the game-deciding goal in the 86th minute.

Geoff Cameron (Stoke City)

After being thrashed by Manchester City last week, Stoke City and Cameron were unable to bounce back, losing to Bournemouth, 2-1. Cameron returned to his role at center back after playing as a right midfielder the week before.

Danny Williams (Huddersfield Town)

In an unpredicted win, Huddersfield Town defeated Manchester United, 2-1, on Saturday. Williams played the entire match as a central midfielder and picked up a yellow in the 79th minute. This victory was Huddersfield first since late August.

Matt Miazga (Vitesse Arnhem)

Vitesse and Miazga continued their dominance in the Eredivisie, defeating Heerenveen, 4-0. This win puts the club in third place, six points away from first place PSV and one point behind second place Ajax.

Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt)

After a rough start to the 2.Bundesliga season, Ingolstadt has turned it around. Morales played the entire match in Ingolstadt’s 3-0 win against Heidenheim.

William Yarbough (Club Leon)

Club Leon’s quest for first was stalled as it drew, 0-0, to Monarcas on Friday. Yarbough played the entire match in the shutout.

Ethan Horvath (Brugge)

Brugge has extended its winning streak to five after defeating Royal Antwerp, 1-0. Horvath played in goal and recorded his fourth shutout of the season. Brugge remains eight points ahead in the Jupiler League table.

Gboly Ariyibi (MK Dons)

In a wild eight-goal game, MK Dons drew, 4-4, against Oldham Athletic. Ariybi subbed on for the final 20 minutes. MK Dons is in 15th place in League One.
