HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls parted ways with 22-year-old midfielder Ruben Bover on Thursday afternoon.

MLS writer Eric Giacometti broke the story early Thursday morning via Twitter.

Bover signed with the Red Bulls ahead of the 2013 season. He managed 22 appearances, three starts and a single goal over the course of two years.

The former Charlton Athletic midfielder, who shares an agent with former captain Thierry Henry, suffered injury to both his left thigh and left calf muscles early in preseason, restricting him from participating in training with the club.  With turnover at a high, Bover’s reputation could not carry him to a permanent spot.  Marsch had no barometer for Bover’s value, making him a nearly inevitable cut by the end of preseason.

The New York Red Bulls return to action on Sunday, March 22nd, taking on DC United at Red Bull Arena.

That’s a shame. I’ll miss his energy and floppy hair.

    (But excellent pun, Dave.)
